Location: Paonia, CO
Learn the Process of Enfleurage, and the Art of Subtle Aromatherapy and Composing Natural Perfumes
You are invited to explore different realms of aromatics during this hands-on weekend workshop in the beautiful valley of Paonia, Colorado.
Through the course of the weekend, we will be exploring various avenues that will open up a deeper understanding of aromatics and the language of essential oils. We will also expand your skillset in composing your own blends.
We will gather at 5 p.m. on Friday to have a small potluck and opening circle prior to going into our first topic, I ask that you bring something to contribute to the community potluck on Friday evening.
Below you will find more information on the three areas that we will be focusing on through the weekend. A general schedule of the weekend can be seen here: Sacred Scents Workshop ~Schedule
Friday p.m. and Saturday a.m. ~ Enfleurage
Have you ever excitedly run over to a lilac bush or tuberose plant to inhale its deeply floral fragrance, and then soon found yourself saddened by their growing season coming to an end? Have you dreamed of being able to capture the scent to enjoy it through the year? This can become a reality if you have an abundance of fragrant flowers and a few tools and materials. Unlike many other flowers, the delicate flowers of lilac, tuberose and jasmine are too delicate to be extracted by steam distillation, a process of producing essential oils. While a natural extract of these aromatics can be very difficult to come by commercially, we can create them ourselves through the process of Enfleurage. This process will be demonstrated during the weekend.

Saturday Afternoon ~ Subtle Aromatherapy
While essential oils have become more popular to use therapeutically for various ailments, it is important to consider that they also have a unique way of interacting with our mind and emotions, physiologically through the limbic system within our brain. Each one of us has our own unique olfactory memory that connects scents to experiences and moments throughout our life.
Through the weekend we will explore the subject of Subtle Aromatherapy, the Language of Aromatics, and why this is an important consideration when composing a blend for yourself, a loved one, or a client. We will also have some time to quiet ourselves and experience various essential oils and discuss ways to incorporate subtle aromatherapy into our daily life.
Sunday morning ~ Composing Natural Perfumes and Blending Techniques
Essential Oils are volatile concentrated substances derived from aromatic parts of various plants, fruit and trees. I will briefly discuss the safety and toxicology of essential oils, and we will experience a range of essential oils having levels of intensity, depths, and dissipation. These considerations must be taken into account during the blending process. During this workshop you will be introduced to several blending techniques and considerations, including the Top, middle and base note classification system, the odor intensity of commonly used essential oils, odor types, Essential Oil Blending Factors, and more.

- Educational handouts will be provided during the workshop. You will also be able to create a blend of your own to take home in a unique glass bottle similar to the glass bottles below.
- An organic lunch and floral inspired treats will be provided on both Saturday and Sunday afternoon, prior to us parting.
